ABOUT ME

Heather Smith

I was born in England but I have lived on the island of Majorca since I was 19. I started writing in a more determined way when I retired from teaching at a Majorcan secondary school. What really gave me the final push out of my comfort zone was spending a year doing a Masters degree in Creative Writing at Oxford Brookes University at the age of 66. A lot of what I write reflects on what it’s like being ‘Spanglish’, the changing role of women over 50 years in what was a very male chauvinistic society in the last years of the Franco regime. I have published a book of poems called Poems of Joy and Melancholy (available on Amazon, Poems of Joy and Melancholy (TURRIS BABEL) and a novella, The Last Months of Violet Koski which is available in both Spanish and English on Amazon. In March 2025 my fictionalised memoir Unsent Letters will be published.
